#1 Serve the Homeless
Sometimes when I come across something I like, I find a way to post it on my bedroom wall. I posted this on my wall many months before planning my birthday and never would have imagined that it would inspire me to do as I did! (Luke 14: 12-14)
Thank you everyone for coming and joining in on preparing food and joining the men at La Posada for heartfelt talks. I know the talking part was especially challenging for some. A few of my friends came up to me to express their concerns like “I don’t know what to say” or “I don’t want to say the wrong thing.” Truthfully, I didn’t know what to say either. I had been at La Posada once before, but we mostly sang Christmas carols during dinner and other people did the talking. All I knew was - they’re human too.
What I thought was so beautiful was that by the end of the night, each one of us was able to sit down and get to know someone that was staying at La Posada a little more than whether or not they wanted vegetables or not. How awesome is that?! Seconds into a conversation, I saw how simple it was for my friends and that we shouldn’t be concerned with what we should say or what we should not say.
Towards the end, we took a group with the last few in the cafeteria.
We’re all human, just at different stages in life with different circumstances. We’re all human and we all like someone to just listen sometimes, someone who cares to hear our story, and someone that won’t judge us.
It was so great to listen to the stories of all the hardships and accomplishments of the strong men at the homeless shelter. Thanks for sharing your stories and being so kind to us.
Again, I must thank my friends for really being the glue to this awesome day. Special thanks to Sarah Lodhi and Amy Boudsady who couldn’t be there but were the masterminds who really pushed me to make my quarter of a century one a special one!
