#3 Casa de Amparo for the Abused and Neglected
(Home of Protection) has been recognized as a leader in treating and preventing child abuse and neglect in San Diego County and beyond. I can’t say too much, but I will say that the services they provide to some of the most abused and neglected kids are so great. They offer counseling, space for supervised family visitation, transition programs for those 18+, and offer support to young moms.
They currently house approximately 35 children in their level 12 (of 14! O_O) facility and offer services to hundreds of children. WOW right? Casa de Amparo residents are boys and girls, 6-21 years of age including those with special healthcare needs, who have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse or severe neglect.
I am SO glad these children get to enjoy such a beautiful campus. They deserve it.

I contacted the volunteer coordinator, Celeste, about two weeks ago inquiring if there were any weekend volunteer opportunities. Turns out she was planning for Calloway Golf to come and do a deep cleaning of the facility and could use a hand leading the group. Evidently, Calloway Golf staff participate in a different service project every month (which I think is SO AWESOME) and they were so organized! All I had to do was join in on the cleaning! ;) I can’t say enough about the Celeste and the Calloway Golf staff. They were all so welcoming, and we all worked well as a team IMHO. It turned out to be a great Saturday morning of service.
Blue skies,
